About Tinas Dance Studio
An education in dance will enhance the life of each individual in countless ways. Through instruction in dance an individual will learn to achieve goals, work as a team, and will gain personal growth and self-confidence. Dance is an art; the most beautiful art one can express.
Creative Movement I (Ages 3-4)
Our number one goal and priority is to help each student to experience the joy of theatre and dance, to feel good about him/her self and to gain self-confidence in his/her creative abilities. Movement exploration and general ballet are important for this age group. Learning to work well with others, balance, coordination, and flexibility help build a strong foundation for more technique later. This is a fun class for our tiny tot ballerina’s and they are all stars in our class!
Creative II (5-6 years old)
This class expands on more creative movement exploration. We go into much more detail on technique and introduction to basic Ballet, Jazz and Tap steps. Students also learn terminology, poise, balance, flexibility, rhythm, working as a team, and gain self-confidence. This is a fun and educational class for our young dancers. It is amazing what they accomplish each year!
Ballet Classes
Tina’s Dance Studio strives to give each student a solid foundation in Classical Ballet. Students learn proper technique, terminology, poise, strength, balance, and flexibility. Older levels will learn how to choreograph some of their own pieces through out the year. The level of Ballet will depend on your grade and also on each student’s personal ability.
Ballet Pointe Class (students can begin at age 11)
Pointe work is available to select students and placed on pointe at the discretion of Miss Tina. The student must have several years of ballet training to be placed on Pointe. This is a very disciplined class, working on direct technique that is very important for the Pointe dancer! We also pay special attention to injury prevention, and being sure the strength of the dancer is where it should be. Many excersises will be given to the student that she can work on also at home each week. We also started a class for Pre-Pointe, this class is to prepare the student for our pointe class. We will work on strengthening the students feet, correct technique, injury prevention and more. This class students will work into their pointe shoes depending on the ability of each student.
Jazz
Using the latest in popular (tasteful) music, we teach basic jazz for our younger students and more modern jazz for Int I and Adv dancers. This is a fun, high-energy dance that is very fun for all ages. Students will find it easier to accomplish the combinations if enrolled in a ballet program, but it is not mandatory.
Hip Hop
Loosen up and be ready to learn some new funky street style moves. Learn new technique and have fun in this high-energy hip-hop class. This will be used in addition to jazz class and is a fun class enjoyed by all the students..boys and girls!!
Tap
This is a fun educational class where students make special “music with their feet”. There are over 150 Tap steps. Students of younger ages will learn basic tap steps, terminology, and use of music associated with the rhythms needed to tap dance. More advanced tap class will learn tap jumps, turns, & longer combinations. All students will love this class.
Inspirational - Liturgical
Using contemporary Christian music learn how to express yourself in free movement. Dancers will, learn to express a feeling or tell a story through the beauty and art of liturgical dance. Using some ballet technique, this truly is a beautiful way of expression. Inspirational dance is incorporated into every ballet class.
“Let them praise His name in the Dance…”
Psalm 149:3
Ballroom Dancing
In this 6-week dance session you will learn the Fox Trot, Waltz, 2-Step, Tango, and Jitterbug. “Put your dancin shoes on and join the fun”. This class is held at times when we have full class enrollment.
Spring Dance Performances
Every spring, we end our year with a large, fun and exciting recital show, held at the Belle Fourche Area Community Center Theatre. Every year we have a new and entertaining theme. This is a very rewarding time for students and gives them a chance to show off all they have learned for family and friends. Two years in a row we have sold out both shows. This truly is the highlight of the year! We have also had our Winter productions, in 2007 at Christmas our show was called “Oh Holy Night”. This show was very memorable and we celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ through the expression of dance in liturgical and ballet style of dances.
Camps/Workshops
We always encourage students to attend extra workshops or dance camps throughout the season. We always keep them informed of all the opportunities that surround our area. This is a great opportunity to advance yourself, or just to have fun. Always look in the studio for upcoming opportunities for workshops or camps.
Dance Competitions
At times throughout the year we will have the opportunity to go to competitions. Although we are not a studio that stresses competitions, we do like to participate in them a couple times a year. This makes it very fun and also challenging for the students to show what they have learned and all their hard work. In the Summer of 2007 our advanced dance group, “The Dance Line Divas” took FIRST place in the Motions Dance Competition in Rapid City.
Game Dances and Other City activities
Some dance groups also have the opportunity to perform at several games throughout the season. Students have danced at games in Belle Fourche, and Newell. They have also enjoyed and danced at the Talent Show in Belle Fourche and Black Hills Christian Academy’s Gospel Festival fundraiser in Spearfish, and the Purity Ball in Spearfish. These are great opportunities for the students to have fun!
